The Cherokee platform's independent suspension is a complex, yet substantial design for off-roading. Designed to create comfort while on-road, there was room to improve it off-road. If you have ever gone off-road and found yourself teeter tottering on three wheels when off balance, you will know that your traction was reduced by 25%. (due to 1 of your 4 wheels being in the air)
The solution to this is by disconnecting your sway bar's end links. You can get your tools out, hex sets, open ended wrenches, lay on your back on the ground of the trail and disconnect them, or use MFC's quick disconnecting setup. These are designed for one handed removal from the attachment point and tied back to the sway bar with the supplied straps.
When you disconnect the end links from the sway bar, you let each corner of the Jeep articulate entirely on its own. By doing so, your downward and upward travel of each well increases within the limits of the factory designed deflection since your sway bar is not controlling articulation any more.
***NO HARM IS DONE TO YOUR CV'S OR AXLES SINCE THE ARTICULATION OCCURS WITHIN THE LIMITS SET FROM THE FACTORY***
This allows your tires to be planted on the ground more often, giving you all four wheels to apply the traction when needed.
*** Some people say that this is n a non-functional product, and independent suspension does not gain any benefits from disconnecting the end links from the sway bar. If this is true, why do all Land Rovers and Range Rovers have this feature to electronically disconnect their INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION ***
Further proof can be had with documented photos soon to be seen here on this page. Take a look at the tire clearances connected vs disconnected:
Since the disconnecting side is a metal to metal connection, the use of the included rubber isolators is needed to reduce any noise associated with the design. These are included with the purchase and if you ever need more, just let us know and we will send you new ones free of charge!
